75% of Japan’s Companies Use AI. Did You Expect That?

Something big is happening in how Japanese businesses work. Many companies there are quickly starting to use Artificial Intelligence, or AI. This technology helps them do many tasks, making work faster and sometimes better.
This shift shows how businesses are changing all over the world. If you own a company, manage a team, or just want to understand the future of work, knowing how AI is being used can be very helpful.
A Big Jump in AI Use
A recent study by a government group found that a huge number of Japanese companies are now using AI. About 75 out of every 100 businesses have adopted this technology. This is a massive change from just five years ago when only 11 out of 100 companies were using it.
This study looked at more than 1,100 companies between December and January. The results clearly show a growing trend.
AI Is Everywhere, No Matter the Size
It’s not just big companies that are turning to AI. Businesses of all sizes are seeing its value:
• Large companies: AI use shot up to 89% from 19%.
• Medium companies: It jumped to 66% from just 8%.
• Smaller companies: Even here, AI use grew to 65% from 4%.
This shows that AI is becoming a tool for everyone, not just for those with lots of money or staff.
How Companies Are Putting AI to Work
So, what exactly are these companies doing with AI? The study found a few main uses:
• Writing documents: AI helps create reports, letters, and other papers much faster.
• Finding information: It makes it easier to collect and sort through lots of data.
• Tech help and new product making: AI assists in solving technical problems and building new things.
Real Benefits Companies Are Seeing
Companies are finding many good things come from using AI:
• Less phone calls: Online chatbots, which are AI programs that talk to customers, have greatly cut down the number of phone calls staff need to answer.
• Saving work hours: One company expects to save about 60,000 hours of work each year by using AI to write meeting notes and sum up emails.
• More sales: A retail business saw its sales grow about four times because AI helped them understand what products customers liked most.
• Better training: Some companies use AI to learn the skills of their most experienced workers, then use that knowledge to train new staff.
What Holds Companies Back
Even with all the good things, some companies still face challenges:
• Not enough skilled workers: Some businesses don’t have enough employees who know how to use AI well.
• Worries about data safety: There’s a concern that private company or customer information might accidentally get out when using AI.
Despite these issues, the big move towards AI in Japan shows that many businesses believe the benefits are worth it. It’s a clear sign that AI is quickly becoming a normal part of how companies operate.
